If I dye my hair again, will it get damaged?

Last night, I thought it would be fun to use a highlighting kit to lighten my hair. Baaad idea. I applied it in large chucks so it almost looks dyed on the top of my head and around my face. It is not the color I want at all and it looks nothing like the color that was on the box. My hair before was a dirty blonde, now it's pretty light and yellow (almost orange) looking. If I go to my hairdresser sometime this week to get it darker and the color that I want, will this damage it? If so what could I do to at least make it look presentable until I dye it?
